Taking New Media and Communications was very rewarding and informative. Upon entering the class I wanted to set a strong foundation to build the rest of my degree on along with my professional image. My biggest concern was technological aspects that I would encounter I will expand on the key pointa that I took from this class.
First was developing my online professional identity and how to maintain it. This entailed how have journalistic integrity but how to use technology to do so. I was able to build and design a professional website with the use of Wix that I can build upon the whole program. Also, a professional Twitter account was built to promote my website and network.
Content distribution was another an integral point of the class. In which we looked in social media and digital distribution not only the traditional methods of TV and print journalism. Digital media the wave of the future for journalism. We took an in-depth look at the pros and cons of along with differences and similarities between new media journalism and legacy media,
There are economic forces gat influence changes in the media that were discussed. We looked at business models and mew media distribution platforms and how to navigate them.
Trends within the media were identified and discussed and how they impacted society. I found newsletters and “Fake News” to be the most influential on the area of politics that I want to write about, as they can make or break a candidate but either suppressing negative stories, lying to negatively impact a candidate’s reputation and confusing opinion with fact.
This course laid the foundation for my ability to effectively communicate within the digital media world. This world is very different in the vast possibilities that it offers by combining storytelling methods, writing techniques and technology within the digital world. As a journalist I can control my work getting into news consumers hands without the use of legacy media. New Media Journalism is much more independent, and this class gave me the foundational tools to do so. Anyone interested in New Media Journalism the points focus on in this post are a good starting point to look into.
